IWAIZUMI, Iwate Prefecture--Their hatchery was completely destroyed by Typhoon No. 10 at the end of August, but fishermen here are putting up a good fight to save their livelihoods.
Members of the Omotohama fisheries cooperative association collected around 800,000 salmon eggs in about one hour from freshly caught salmon at a temporary facility in the town.
At 8 a.m., the workers had harvested the salmon at the mouth of the Omotogawa river.
