今回取り上げる表現は、“munch on”です。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)では、「«食物を»むしゃむしゃ食べる«on, thorough, at»」と定義されています。確認のために引いたLDOCEでは、“to eat something noisily”と定義されていました。LDOCEの定義にもあるように、“munch”はむしゃむしゃと音を立てながら食事をすることを表現します。今回の記事で取り上げられているポニーが何かを食べているところを想像するとわかりやすいかもしれません。(Blue Sky)
