今回取り上げるのは、“sleazy”という表現です。この表現をLDOCEで調べてみると、“relating to sex or dishonest behaviour – used to show disapproval”と定義されていました。さらに『ジーニアス英和辞典』(大修館書店)には、「｟略式｠みだらな、いかがわしい、だらしのない、自堕落な」といった意味が記載されていました。この記事では、“sleazy affairs”で「ゲス不倫」を表しています。
念のため、「ゲス」という言葉も確認すると、「下劣で品性が卑しい、品性を欠いているさま」(「Weblio国語辞書」)などとあり、上の“sleazy”の定義とあまり差異がないと分かります。(ninetails)
