High vegetable prices persist due to poor harvests, attributed to damage from typhoons that have hit Hokkaido and the Tohoku and Kanto regions, as well as slow crop growth caused by continuous rain and lack of sunlight.

今回取り上げる表現は “precut vegetables” です。precutということばから、少しでも出荷量を増やすために早めに収穫した小ぶりの野菜を表しているのかと思いましたが、調べてみると予想した意味とは異なりました。手持ちの紙辞書では見つけられませんでしたので、電子辞書に内蔵されている「ジーニアス英和辞典」（第4版　大修館書店）で調べると「（建材、生地などが）（すぐ組立、縫製、使用できるよう）あらかじめ切ってある」という意味であることがわかりました。このことから、“precut vegetables” は前もって切ってある野菜のこと表し、スーパーなどに売られている野菜で、半分や4分の1サイズにカットされて売られているものをさしているようです。（aqua）
