Michael Jackson – The King Of Pop.
The beginning of this year saw the demise of a pair of incredibly influential artists in David Bowie and Prince, but 2009 saw the death of an artist whose importance and influence can not be overstated, Michael Jackson.
King Of Pop Michael Jackson began as a child star while leading the Jackson 5, a sibling fuelled pop act which was a hit on radio and the small screen with an iconic debut on the Ed Sullivan Show and their very own short-lived animated television show titled ‘Jackson 5ive’.
As an adult, Michael Jackson hit it huge and was a monumental figure whose name was known worldwide and presence was felt on arious mediums both during his time on earth and well after his passing. One major aspect that made MJ an artist ahead of his time, was his genre bending songs which embraced elements of R&B, pop and even elements of nascent hiphop. Further to this, Michael Jackson and his team were responsible for numerous iconic music videos which perfectly represented the fashions of the time and set dance trends for years to come.
Both of the above factors has allowed Jackson’s influence to be felt in the sound, dance and look of contemporary chart toppers like the Weeknd and Justin Bieber. Being timeless is the greatest achievement any artist can claim, and Michael Jackson has proven to be just that.
While his musical legacy is rather flawless, King Of Pop Michael Jackson fell to the same plight that many who have tasted fame and success at an early age have suffered, with dependency and some troubled times muddying many of his days. Those ailments eventually claimed Jackson’s life, with the artist dying suddenly under the influence of a convergence narcotics and prescribed drugs.
All of this amounts to the classic story of an incredibly talented artist who passed before his time, but left a creative legacy that will prove to be timeless.
