born and bred 復習

However, whisky-flavoured cheese is a bold step in a new direction – a Scotch homage to fromage – and I hope to be sampling Strathearn with oatcakes and, appropriately, a dram of Glenturret.

今回取り上げる表現は “born and bred”です。最初はただの動詞だと思っていたのですが、調べてみたところイディオムとして使われているようです。
Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “by birth and upbringing, especially with reference to some considered a typical product of a place”とのことでした。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「[be動詞・名詞の後で]生粋の，生まれ育った」と載っておりました。
文中では “born and bred in”と使われておりますが、 “I am a Londoner, born and bred”のように使用することもできるようです。(Gomez)
