I take it with a grain of salt. 復習
本日のゼミ活動内で扱った一文に、 “I take it with a grain of salt”という表現がありました。本日はこのreviewです。
すでにみなさんはご存じのことだと思いますが，『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）によると、 “take O with a grain [pinch] of salt”で「〈話など〉を多少疑って聞く，話半分に聞く，額面通りにはとらない」とのことでした。
さらにOxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)で調べたところ、 “regard something as exaggerated; believe only part of something”と載っておりました。
授業内では、「まゆつば」という意味だと教えていただきました。
語源をThe Phrase Finder というサイトで調べたところ、“The idea comes from the fact that food is more easily swallowed if taken with a small amount of salt. Pliny the Elder translated an ancient antidote for poison with the words 'be taken fasting, plus a grain of salt'.”(省略)とのことでした。随分と昔の言葉が由来のようです。（http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/take-with-a-grain-of-salt.html）
