Climbers cheer “Banzai!” at the sunrise from the summit of Mt. Fuji at about 4:30 a.m on Friday, the first day of this year’s official climbing season. About 100 people admired the sunrise. The climbing season began on the Yoshida Trail in Yamanashi Prefecture on the same day. The other three trails in Shizuoka Prefecture will open to climbers on July 10. This is the fourth climbing season since the mountain’s World Cultural Heritage listing.
