The Mewgaroo series, brought to you by UNIHABITAT (ユニハビタット), also includes the long-sleeve sweatshirt, the “bad cat” onepiece, and the TV anime “Osomatsu San” collaboration sweater, all having the special cat-carrying pouch feature for you to snuggle up with the beloved cat of your choice.
今回取り上げる表現は、 “snuggle up”です。
Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、snuggleで “settle or move into a warm”とのことでした。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館）によると、 “snuggle up”で「〈人などに〉寄り添う，すり寄る」と載っておりました。また “snuggle down”は「〈人・動物などが〉（暖かさや愛情を求めて）心地よく横たわる，心地よく体を丸める」という意味になるようです。
他にも「寄り添う」といった意味の単語があるかどうか調べたところ、cuddleやnestleなどがありました（『新和英辞典』第五版、研究社）。
cuddleは「ぴったり寄り添う」、nestleは「（巣の中の鳥のように）身を落ち着ける，体をうずめる」という意味だそうです。（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第五版、大修館）
またこの商品の日本名は「サマーにゃんガルーパーカー」となっているため、 “Summer Mewgaroo Hoodie”は猫の鳴き声の “mew”と “kangaroo”を掛け合わせたものであると推測できます。（Gomez）
