少女誘拐事件の容疑者である寺内容疑者の供述から、少しずつ事件の概要が明らかになってきました。

After the girl escaped from the apartment in Nakano on Sunday, police found Tera-uchi with self-inflicted wounds in Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Monday.
He is believed to have drunk beer and whiskey before attempting to commit suicide by slashing his throat with a box cutter.
A receipt with words “I committed a terrible (crime)” written on the back suggested he had intended to write his confession in a suicide note.
The parents of the girl issued a statement following Tera-uchi’s arrest, saying they cannot forgive him for ruining their daughter’s life. “We want to say to him to give back the two years of our daughter and (our) family … ,” they said
この記事で気になった表現は、self-inflicted woundsです。寺内容疑者が警察に保護された当初、血まみれだったということから、「負傷」などといった言葉を連想しました。またselfという言葉があるため、自分で傷を負ったとも推測できます。『ジーニアス英和辞典第５版』（大修館）でself-inflictedを調べてみますと、「〈問題などが〉自ら招いた；〈傷などが〉自傷行為による」という形容詞であることが分かりました。
Woundsも調べてみると、名詞で「[体の部分の]傷，外傷，けが[in]《♦戦争・襲撃・けんかなどで刀剣・銃器類によって傷害の意図をもとに受けた傷；cf. hurt》」と書かれておりました。この二つを合わせると、自ら招いた傷と取ることができ、自殺(未遂)での傷とも読み取ることができます。また、複数形であることから、傷は一か所ではないことも分かります。
この事件はまだ謎な点が多いので、はやく解明されることを願います。（Gomez）
