ご存知のごとく，元プロ野球選手の清原和博容疑者が覚せい剤取締法違反の容疑で逮捕されました。警察の調べによると、清原容疑者は覚せい剤を使用した容疑は認めていますがそれをどこから入手したのかを開示することは拒否してるようです。

今回取りあげる単語は "inhale" という単語です。『ジーニアス英和辞典・第５版』によると、「(空気･ガスなどを)吸い込む・吸引する」と意味が記されていました。さらに、Oxford Wordpower Dictionaryには"to breath in"と定義されていました。両者の意味の違いはさほど無さそうに見えますが、"inhale"の方がやや硬い表現だそうです。また反対語の「(空気･ガスなどを)吐き出す」という意味で"exhale"という単語もありました。
ゼミの英語合宿のvocal trainingでは最初に呼吸法を行いますが，そのとき，先生が"Breathe in!" "Breathe out!"といっておられたことを思い出しました。
自分が小学生の頃大のスター選手であった為、晩年をこのような形で迎えてしまうのは非常に残念に思えます。(Mt.Fuji)
