ここで取り上げる表現は “schmooze”です。『ジーニアス英和辞典第4版』（大修館書店）では「くだらない話をする」とあり，LDOCEでは “to talk in a friendly way about unimportant things at a social event, especially because you want to gain an advantage for yourself later”と定義されています。類義語として “chat”が挙げられますが， 比較してみますと“schmooze”の方が社会的行事の際に用いられるとのことです。以前の記事で先輩が言及されています。（Inaho）
