"perk"を取り上げます。手持ちの辞書では意味が載っていなかったので、LDOCEで調べてみると"something that you get legally from your work in addition to your wages, such as goods, meals, or a car"とありました。さらに調べていくと、"perquisite"の省略形であることがわかりました。もう一度手持ちの辞書で調べてみると「(地位,職務に伴う)特典, 役得」と確認できました。
ちなみに"perk"の省略形はもう１つあり、percolateのことも表すそうです。
特典というくらいですからどれほど凄いのか気になったので、調べてみました。報道では「エアフォース・ワン」と呼ばれていますが、これは空軍機としてのコールサインで、正式には「VC−２５」というそうです。また、別名「空飛ぶホワイトハウス」とも呼ばれているそうで、外国訪問などの公用からプライベートでの使用まで許されているとのことでした。プライベートでも使用するほどさぞかし、機内も特別なのでしょう。(lua)
