SNSで知り合った12歳の少女を3日間にわたって誘拐したとして、18歳の少年が逮捕されました。

Police arrested an 18-year-old man in Yokohama Wednesday on suspicion of abducting an elementary school girl and confining her at his house for three days.

The suspect, whose name has been withheld because he is a minor, has owned up to abducting the 12-year-old girl, the police said. She was unhurt when the police went to the suspect’s home Tuesday.

He allegedly told police he “wanted to offer a place for the girl to stay because she was on bad terms with her parents.”

According to investigators, the two came to know each other on an online dating site and had made an appointment to meet each other.

同じく「誘拐する」という意味をもつ“kidnap”との違いですが、それは両者の目的にありました。“to take someone somewhere illegally by force, often in order to get money for returning them - LDOCE”とあるようにkidnapは主に「身代金」目的の誘拐を指しています。一方、“abduct”は誘拐「そのもの」に目的があり、無理やり連れ去る「拉致」のニュアンスが強い表現になります。（Chris）
