先輩もとりあげておられますが，アメリカでは17日夜からこの大作の公開が始まり，ついに映画「スター・ウォーズ」の最新作が日本でも公開となりました。

Then and there (or now and here), “Star Wars” is taking over.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” starts playing at many theaters across the city tonight, even though the film’s official opening is tomorrow.
(If you haven’t been camping out for days, tickets may be, shall we say, elusive.)
Manohla Dargis, a movie critic for The Times, writes, “The big news about ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is — spoiler alert — that it’s good!”
今回取り上げるのは、“spoiler alert”という表現です。“spoiler”は動詞“spoil”から派生した名詞で「台無しにする人（もの）」を表しますが、LDOCEで確認してみると“a message or report that is intended to ruin the surprising part of a popular film, book etc by telling people about the surprise before they see or read it”と定義されており、「興味を損なわせる情報」という意味もありました。つまり「ネタバレ」を表しています。
誰でも自分が見たいと思っていた映画などの内容・結末が事前に分かってしまえば、興味が薄れると思います。“spoiler”の後に続く“alert”は、楽しみにしている人たちをネタバレで落胆させないための「警告（ここから先は見ないでください！）」を意味しています。(ninetails)
