Lucas Etter shaved 0.35 seconds off his friend's record at the River Hill Fall 2015 competition in Maryland, USA.
The time, recorded by the World Cube Association, is awaiting official verification as a world record.
After revealing his secret to Radio 5 live's Phil Williams, Lucas said he wanted to keep reducing his time "just as fast as I can go".

今回取り上げるのは、“shave (時間) off~”という表現です。“shave”もしくは“shaving”という単語を聞いて、真っ先に思い浮かんだのは「髭剃り」でした。髭剃りで深く剃りすぎてしまうと、肌を傷つけたり、出血したりすることなどにつながってしまいます。そのため、「薄く、わずかに」といったニュアンスが伝わってきます。
そこで、今回の表現をLDOCEで調べてみると、“if you shave a small amount off something such as a price or a record, you make the price slightly smaller or the record time slightly shorter”という定義が見つかりました。さらに『ジーニアス英和辞典G4 大修館書店』で確認してみると、「｟略式｠〈時間など〉を〔〜から〕縮める、減らす」といった意味が載っていました。(ninetails)
