The Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) plans to change its recruitment guidelines to move up the start of job screenings of university students expected to join the workforce in spring 2017. The plan calls for allowing companies to begin such activities centered around June of the students’ senior year, up from August.

Meanwhile, small and midsize companies that are not members of Keidanren were also affected. These companies started screening activities in the spring and issued informal job offers to students. However, after major companies started their screenings in earnest from August, a number of students declined the smaller companies’ job offers.
“screenings”を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典(大修館書店)』によると、「映画の上映会」などという意味の他に「選考」という意味がありました。LDOCEで確認すると、“tests or checks that are done to make sure that people or things are acceptable or suitable for a particular purpose.”とあり、適正検査という意味もあることがわかりました。
変更が相次いで起こったことで、問題や批判が起きており、就活を控える身としては就活を終えられるのか、不安になりました。(lua)
