bottleneck 復習
上野公園を国際的な文化交流の場にしようという試みが行われています。これは2020年のオリンピック、パラリンピックに向けたもので、上野を「文化の杜」と名付け、ここを拠点とした構想を立てているということです。
A plan is under way to designate Tokyo’s Ueno Park area, with its concentration of museums and galleries, as a “cultural forest” and promote it to the world as an international cultural hub leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

In addition to these changes, the plan also includes physical improvements, such as renovating the park side exit of JR Ueno Station.
At present, visitors using this exit must cross a road, and the sidewalk is often heavily congested — especially during the cherry blossom-viewing season in spring — with people waiting for the green crosswalk signal.
Various ways to deal with this bottleneck are being considered, including an extension of the zoo monorail or an underground passage connecting Ueno Station to the park.
今回取り上げるのは、“bottleneck”です。『ジーニアス英和辞典第4版(大修館書店)』によりますと、「狭くなっている道、合流などのため渋滞する道」「生産などの障害となっている部分」とありました。動詞としても使われ、その場合は「狭い道路を進行で妨げられる」「進行を妨げる」という意味になります。
上野公園だけでも多くの文化が学べる場所があるので、外国の方にとっても訪れやすい場所になって多くの方に訪れてほしいと思います。(lua）
