“cub”には、「（キツネ・トラ・クマなどの）子」という意味がありました。『Wisdom英和辞典』(三省堂)また、『英辞郎 on the WEB』で調べてみると、「肉食獣の子」という意味で挙げられていました。日本語で動物の赤ちゃんを言う際は、小熊や子犬、子猫というように単純に表現出来ますが、英語では今回のように、”cub”と言ったり、”puppy”や”kitten”と言い方が動物によって異なるので大変だと感じました。(Starlight)
