Israeli President Straddles Rift With Arabs, Drawing Threats

The 75-year-old head of state recites his pedigree to explain why he’s used the first year of his ceremonial presidency to preach equality between Israel’s Jewish and Arab citizens, and decry the racism and chauvinism he says has permeated the country’s political discourse.

にまたがる」(--“if something straddles a line, road, or river, part of it is on the side and part on the other side” LDOCE5 )という意味の他に、「[比ゆ的に](議論・争点など)にどっちつかずの態度をとる」(--“to sit or stand with your legs on either side of someone or something” LDOCE5 )という意味もありました。 (Kawada)
