orthologistという語を取り上げます。logistとなっていることから、そして、文脈からして鳥（特にシギ科の鳥）に関する話題であったことから、「鳥類学者」 であると確信しました。『アンカーコズミカ英和辞典』（学研教育出版）には「鳥類学者」（--“someone who studies birds” LDOCE5）とありました。-logyで「鳥類学」（同英和辞典）です。logyは言うまでもなく「…学」に相当し、ornith(o)-は「鳥」（『英語語源辞典』　研究社）を表します。
（バードウォッチャーを除き）人は寄ってこないのに、鳥が寄ってくるとは、何とも不思議な光景です。（Kawada）
