Girl sent to medical reformatory over murder of classmate in Sasebo

The Nagasaki Family Court decided Monday to send a 16-year-old girl who killed a female classmate in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture last year, to a juvenile medical reformatory, judging that criminally punishing her would make things worse.

Presiding Judge Kenichiro Hirai said in handing down the decision that the girl lacks empathy due to severe autistic spectrum disorder and that the girl's case was an unusually peculiar one.
