劇団四季によるディズニー提携ミュージカル「アラジン」が開幕しました。昨年の3月にブロードウェイ公演が始まり、大ヒットを記録しているそうです。それに続く日本公演となっており、注目が集まっています。そのアラジンで主要人物となるジニーとアラジンを演じる二人の役者さんについて紹介されています。そして、ジニーのキャラクターについて語っています。
“[Genie] is loved by everyone,” he said. “He’s an important character who knits the story together. I took part in the audition for the role thinking I might not make it.”

Genie is an entertainer in the mold of an emcee from the good ol’ days of comedy shows in the United States. The hurdle to play the role is high for the two actors, who have developed as musical performers under the wings of the Shiki company, which generally has a more serious style.

今回取り上げるのは、“knit”です。『ジーニアス英和辞典（大修館書店）』によると、knit …togetherで、「…を一体にする」という意味でした。
