今回は“far-right”を取り上げます。ここでは「右翼、右派の。保守的な」という意味での“right”になります。察するに“far-right”は「極右の、極右団体の/ 極めて保守的な」といったところでしょう。本文中では、“ultra-conservative”も同義表現として用いられています。加えて、『Genius 3 英和辞典』辞典にあった“the extreme political right”も合わせて紹介しておきます。「左派、左翼の。急進派の」を意味する“left”や“progressive”とセットで覚えておきたいものです。
先日のムハンマドの風刺画コンテスト会場付近での殺人事件といい、イスラム教やムスリムを巡る事件が頻発するようになってきたように感じます。ISISの活動が顕著になって以来、宗教間の対立・亀裂が大きくなってきているのかもしれません。大規模な衝突など起きなければ良いのですが…。(potter)
