Baltimore Police Clash With Youths Near Funeral for Freddie Gray
Police in riot gear clashed with rock-throwing teenagers on Monday in a neighborhood in Northwest Baltimore, near the funeral of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died of a spinal cord injury while in police custody.
Captain Erik Kowalczyk of the Baltimore police said seven officers were injured and one was unresponsive. Most of the protesters were thought to have come from nearby high school. A flier circulated on social media called for a period of violence Monday afternoon.
He said that police would respond with whatever was necessary, including tear gas.
