haul

先程の記事から続けてもう1つ。「強く引くこと」という意味のhaulには「(魚の)1網分の漁獲量[高]」という意味があります。英英辞書にもthe amount of fish caught when fishing with a net(LDOCE)とありました。またこの他にもa large amount of illegal or stolen goodsという意味があり,文脈によって意味が大きく変わる単語だと言えます。(Koyamamoto)

Q: Why has the price increase occurred?
A: There are two primary fishing grounds of the common horse mackerel. The first is the Pacific Ocean. The second is the Tsushima Warm Current, which runs from the East China Sea to the Sea of Japan -- where the fish haul is around 10 times greater than that of the Pacific Ocean.
Tetsuo Fujii, who heads the propagation and culture department of the Fisheries Research Agency's National Research Institute of Fisheries and Environment of Inland Sea, explains that the catch was much lower this winter, however, due to continuing poor weather in the area of the Tsushima Warm Current, where storms resulted in numerous days when fishing was unable to take place. In other words, the price increase that we are seeing now is due to this temporary decrease in catches of the fish.
