Otsuka Kagu founder, daughter fight for control

TOKYO -- Two members of the founding family of Japanese furniture maker Otsuka Kagu are gearing up for a proxy fight over management of the company.

The management, led by President Kumiko Otsuka, submitted a slate of board candidates that effectively called for the retirement of founder and Chairman Katsuhisa Otsuka. Katsuhisa Otsuka also submitted a proposal that did not include Kumiko, his daughter. Kumiko Otsuka started Thursday trying to sway shareholders in preparation for a proxy fight while her father is looking for support for a return to the presidency.
Their boardroom maneuvering looks to come to a head at the shareholders meeting March 27.
