OSAKA (Kyodo) -- Undefeated yokozuna Hakuho cast away another would-be challenger in the form of Tamawashi to remain hot in pursuit of his sixth consecutive championship as the first week of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament wrapped up on Saturday.

cast awayは「〈不安・偏見など〉を退ける」（『G5』大修館書店という意味ですが、ここは「（売り出し中の有望株でこれから脅威となるかもしれない）玉鷲の挑戦をあっさりと退ける」という意味で用いられています。
