flaky

3月だというのに米国東部は"津軽海峡冬景色"のようです。こういうflaky(発音は二重母音!)の使い方、おもしろいですね。天候を指すと思われますが、どのような意味なのでしょうか。もどりが早いことを期待しInahoさん、どうぞ。(GP)

Good morning on this flaky Thursday.

It was late getting started, but the snow that overtook the city just before dawn has made for a treacherous commute.

Three to seven inches will fall on the city, most of it before lunchtime, as temperatures drop through the 20s.

“This is real unfortunate timing,” said John Murray of the National Weather Service.

“We have icy areas on the roadways because they were so wet throughout the day and overnight, and all that snowmelt is freezing up.”

On top of that, he said: “The snow is going to stick to the ground, to the roads. And as the snow gets heavy, you will have significantly reduced visibility, as little as a quarter-mile.”

A winter storm warning is in effect until 7 p.m.
