waft through the airという表現を取り上げます。『G5』（大修館書店）によると、「（空中・水上を）〈臭い・音・物など〉を〔…に〕漂わせる、ふわりと運ぶ」とありました。『ケンブリッジ英英和辞典』（小学館）では、さらに細かくwaft from/throughというひと固まりで載っており、 “to gradually move through the air”とありました。今にもバッティングの練習風景と共に、「カキーン」という金属バットが当たる音とともにボールが球場を飛んでいく情景が浮かびました。
