Marcus Mariota of Oregon Wins Heisman Trophy
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday in New York, becoming the first Hawaii native and the first Ducks player to receive the award as college football’s most outstanding player.
Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper were the other finalists.
Mariota, a redshirt junior from Honolulu, led Oregon to a 12-1 record, the Pacific-12 Conference championship and the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff. He accounted for 53 total touchdowns and had only two interceptions.
