Kei Nishikori’s Coach, Michael Chang, Has Been There Before
Michael Chang had a surprise run of his own to a Grand Slam final in 1989, when at age 17 he fought past a series of older, much more established opponents to win the French Open.
He is now coaching Kei Nishikori, the Japanese star who will play in his first Grand Slam final on Monday after upsetting No.3 seed Stan Wawrinka and No.1 seed Novak Djokovic at the United States Open.
Chang, 42, has been interviewed on several occasions this season, usually in the company of his wife
Amber Liu, a former National Collegiate Athletic Association singles champion at Stanford University, and their two young daughters, who travel with Chang when he works with Nishikori.
