McDonald's Japan apologizes over China meat scandal, vows to step up safety measures
McDonald's Holdings Co. (Japan) President Sarah Casanova apologized on July 29 for a high-profile scandal over expired chicken meat supplied by a Chinese producer, and unveiled plans to step up measures aimed at ensuring the safety of her company's products.
Under the planned measures, the company will release information on its ingredients' country or region of origin, as well as where the final processing of raw materials took place.
Speaking at a news conference, Casanova -- who also serves as the CEO of McDonald's Holdings Co. (Japan) -- offered an apology, saying, "I would like to extend my sincere apologies to our valued customers for any anxiety or concern that this situation may have caused." She also lashed out at Shanghai Husi Food Co. for the handling of its products, saying, "The alleged activities are completely unacceptable."
