今回取り上げる記事は、佐世保で起きた同級生殺人事件に関するものです。
記事の"withhold"が気になりました。準１レベルの単語でpostするのもおこがましいのですが，『ジーニアス英和辞典第3版(大衆館書店)』には「…を与えずにおく、保留する」とありました。ですので、文中にある"name was withheld as she is a minor"は「未成年のため名前は伏せる，公開しない」という意味だとわかりました。
とても痛ましい事件です。もちろんですが、未成年者だからといって、決して許されることではないと思います。(Five)
Sasebo teen held for allegedly strangling, decapitating friend
NAGASAKI – A teenager was arrested Sunday on suspicion of killing a high school friend who was visiting her apartment in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, police said.
The 15-year-old girl, whose name was withheld as she is a minor, allegedly used a blunt instrument to kill Aiwa Matsuo, also 15, around 8 p.m. Saturday by attacking her from behind with over a dozen blows to the head and strangling her. Her head and left hand had been chopped off as well, they said.
