大相撲の三賞

再び相撲に関する話題に戻りたいと思います。大相撲名古屋場所が終わったということで大相撲の「三賞」(殊勲賞、敢闘賞、技能賞、以下まとめて「三賞」)について触れたいと思います。

「三賞」をUme先輩が大好きなWeblioで調べてみると、殊勲賞はthe Outstanding Performance Award、敢闘賞はthe Fighting Spirit Award、技能賞はthe Technique Awardとありました。ちなみに「三賞」はthe Three Special Awards(英辞郎 on the web)でした。

殊勲賞の英訳は、「大関や横綱に勝ちまくっている」（"extremely good"-- LDOCE）という印象が伝わってくると思います。また敢闘賞では、"spirit (courage, energy, and determination"--LDOCE5)の使い方が素晴らしいと思いました。

Goeido closes in on ozeki

Sekiwake Goeido notched a crucial 12th win on the final day of the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament on Sunday to pave the way for his promotion to ozeki.

Goeido beat ozeki Kotoshogiku at Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, extending his winning tally in the last three tournaments to 32, which is considered a benchmark figure for a sekiwake to win promotion to ozeki.

His small tally of only eight wins in the previous tournament in May could prove detrimental, but his performance at the Nagoya event may override that. The 28-year-old wrestler also defeated yokozuna Hakuho and Kakuryu earlier in the tournament.

Goeido received the Outstanding Performance Award, representing the 11th time one of the three special awards has been given to a makuuchi-division wrestler. No. 11 maegashira Takayasu (11-4) grabbed the Fighting Spirit Award. No wrestler qualified for the Technique Award.

日本文化の中の相撲という項目を紹介するときに役に立つと思われます。通訳者や通訳ガイドになる必要がなくても(通訳ガイド試験を受けなくても、必要だと思いました。いろんな力士に「三賞」を取ってほしいものですね。
