タコの足（tentacles）の研究が医療技術の分野に応用されているというNewsweekの記事から英語表現を拾います。
navigateというとカーナビなどから「〈車の同乗者が〉道を指図する」，あるいは「〈航空機などを〉操縦する」という意味を思い浮かべがちですが（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館），英英辞書にもto sail along a river or other area of water（LDOCE）とあるように，「海・川・空」などを目的語にとり「航海［航行, 飛行］する」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上）という意味になります。よって記事のnavigate the human bodyは「体内をかけめぐる」と解釈できます。
もともとnavigateはラテン語で「船が推進される」を意味するnāvigātusに由来し，navyなどからもわかるようにnavisは「船」を，agereは「推進する」を意味します（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』同上）。oceanやriverに加えて，今回の記事のようにthe human bodyを目的語として使う時代はもう遠い先の話ではないのかもしれません。（Koyamamoto）

The project’s goal is to create a robotic surgical arm that will navigate the human body with the same grace that octopods use to navigate the ocean.
