Masahiro Tanaka throws a gem for the Yankees, but win over Twins marred by early exit of Mark Teixeira
Tanaka made up for the lack of offense, scattering four hits over eight innings while striking out nine on 106 pitches to improve to 8-1. Teixeira left the game with a sore wrist in the 6th inning.
Another first-rate effort by righthander and de facto ace Masahiro Tanaka as well as a go-ahead hit by Brian McCann were overshadowed on Saturday by news of yet another Yankee injury.
McCann slashed an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury for the go-ahead run, and Yangervis Solarte collected three hits and homered in a 3-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in front of an announced Stadium crowd of 44,346.
