Xi urges "decisive actions" against terrorism after Xinjiang blast

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for "decisive actions" against terrorism following Wednesday's explosion at a railway station in the restive Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, being blamed on religious extremists, state-run media reported Thursday.

"The battle to combat violence and terrorism will not allow even a moment of slackness, and decisive actions must be taken to resolutely suppress the terrorists' rampant momentum," Xi was quoted by Xinhua News Agency as saying after the attack that left three people dead and 79 injured.

Xinhua, citing police, said two people killed in the blast, which came just hours after Xi ended his first inspection visit to the province since taking power in November 2012, are suspects, while a third person who died in the attack was an "innocent citizen."

restiveは興味深い形容詞です。restiveという形態から「休息」の意味のrestを連想するのが自然かもしれませんが、restiveの語源は「休息」とは別の単語です（cf. restif-- ME）。

restiveはかなり堅い言葉で、restive horse「じゃじゃ馬」というフレーズから分かるように「落ち着きのない、手に負えない」という意味を表します。ここでは「政情不安が続く〜、混乱の続く〜」あたりでしょう。（UG）
