家庭用カセットコンロ用ガスボンベを悪用した札幌市の発火・爆破事件はとうとう５件目になりました。

Gas cylinder full of nails explodes in police dorm in Sapporo

A gas cylinder exploded at a police dorm in Sapporo on Thursday night but no one was injured.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. Fuji TV quoted a police officer as saying he heard a loud explosion and then saw smoke pouring out of the building.

The blast occurred on the first floor near the main entrance, causing the wall to burst into flames.

Emergency responders discovered five gas cylinders used for a portable stove near the site of the fire, as well as nearly 100 nails. Of the five gas cylinders, three of them had ruptured.

事件を伝えたJapan Todayの記事ですが，見出しのgas cylinderが気になりました。あくまで個人的な見解ですが，米国の経験からいうとこのことばで最初に思いつくのは日本にあるようなあのカセットコンロ用ガスボンベではなく，もっと大きなボンベではないでしょうか。それは都市ガスを使っていない一般家庭にあるプロパンガスボンベのようなものです（もちろん形態は違います）。

　　　　　　

日本で広く使われているカセットコンロ用ガスボンベは，米国ではBBQやキャンプなどoutdoorで使用される目的で売られており，(Butane) gas canistersやgas cartridgeと呼ばれています。

　　　　　　

札幌の事件で使われているのはこちらの方で，もちろん記事中にはfive gas cylinders used for a portable stoveと説明はしてありますが，少しだけ気になった次第です。（UG）
