The Diary of Anne Frank vandalized

The Diary of Anne Frank and related books have been vandalized at dozens of libraries in Tokyo.

 Pages have been torn or cut out from the famous diary of the holocaust victim, a biography of her, and other books on the wartime persecution of Jews.



NHK has learned that at least 282 books have been damaged at 36 public libraries in 7 wards and cities in Tokyo.

The libraries first noticed the damage in early January. They believe none of the books had been defaced when they were returned by readers.

Police have launched an investigation into the damage.
