back-upを取り上げます。早速手持ちの辞書で調べてみますと、本文では第三語義にある「[〜s]（車の）渋滞」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第3版』大修館）となります。念のためMerriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, 11th Editionも見てみますと’a situation in which the flow of something (such as traffic) becomes blocked’と説明がありました。日本でも大雪の影響で、スーパーやコンビニに物資が届かない、あるいは値段高騰のニュースを目にしますが、日本に限った話ではないようです。（cf. backup - 田邉祐司ゼミ 常時英心：言葉の森から）（Shou-VR*）
