giant isopod

鳥羽水族館で今年2月から展示されていたダイオウグソクムシが金曜日に死亡しました。isopodは形容詞では「等脚類の」という意味ですが、giantがついて「ダイオウグソクムシ」と呼ばれています。(Shou-VR*)

Giant isopod dies at Toba Aquarium

A sea creature that can live for more than 5 years without eating has died at an aquarium in Mie Prefecture, central Japan.

Nothing was found in its stomach.

Giant isopods are about 30 centimeters long.

They live in deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico and other areas.

One of the 9 giant isopods kept at Toba Aquarium stopped eating after it consumed horse mackerel 5 years ago. It became popular as a fasting crustacean.

A member of the breeding staff who feeds the giant isopods once every few months found on Friday that one had passed away.

The giant isopod was still alive Friday morning. It had lived for 5 years and 43 days without eating.
