クリスマスはどうでしたか。空気がピーンと張り詰めた夜で、今年も目についたのはイルミネーションでした。人間は光を好むのでしょうか。以下、BBCが世界のイルミネーションをfeatureしていました。

luminescent はlumen (光) +‎ -escent（性の、し始める）を語源とし、「発光の、発光性の、発光用の」という意味になるんでしたね。luminescent diode（発光ダイオード）、luminescent label（光るラベル）などを思い浮かべます。

先般、朝のラジオ番組で、鳥取の方が砂丘のイルミネーションを取り上げられていましたが、最初、何度も「イルージョン」といわれてふとんの中で大笑いしてしまいました。（UG）
