flurry in the dovecote

The TelegraphのCar Reviewから今回はa little flurry in the dovecoteという表現を採り上げます。flurryは「突風」，dovecote（dovecot）は「ハト小屋」という意味があり（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館），よってa little flurry in the dovecoteで「ハト小屋のように静かなところに波風を立てる」という意味になります。同辞書にはこれに類するものとしてflutter the dovecotes（平穏なところに波乱を起こす）という表現も載せられていました。今回の記事でも「Lexus IS300h F Sportのニューモデルが駐車場に入るとその場が少しざわついた」と解釈できます。（Koyamamoto）
