go into the workforce
気になる記事です。「社会に出る」「社会人になる」という概念は英語では表しにくいものです。記事には「高校を卒業して社会人になった人」という意味で"went directly into the workforce"という表現を用いていますが、参考になります。

31 percent of university grads quit first job out of school within 3 years
Thirty-one percent of March 2010 university grads who took full-time corporate jobs after leaving school quit those positions within three years, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on Oct. 29. The figure is up 2.2 points from last year's results, which covered 2009 graduates.
Of those who graduated from two-year colleges in March 2010, 39.9 percent have quit their first job -- an increase of 0.6 points. Of the high school class of 2010 who went directly into the workforce, 39.2 percent have left their first employers, while 62.1 percent of junior high graduates also left their first job in the first three years.
The ministry calculated the figures from employment insurance registrations and resignation notices submitted to government-run employment offices across the country.
By company size, firms with five or less employees saw the greatest percentage of young workers leave within three years, while larger enterprises experienced less attrition. However, 21.7 percent of university graduates and 19.3 percent of high school graduates have quit their first jobs at companies with over 1,000 employees.
The service industry, including restaurants, hotels, private education and entertainment, saw a particularly large number of young employees leaving their first job out of school.
The ministry believes the high figures are a result of companies' failure to improve their working environments for young workers.
