日本政府は消費税率を来年４月から８％に引き上げることを表明しました。

Japanese govt. decides on tax hike

Prime Minister Abe and his Cabinet ministers have decided to raise the consumption tax from 5 percent to 8 percent, starting next April.

In a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, they also agreed to offset the impact of the tax hike with a stimulus package.
They plan to draw up a supplementary budget of 50 billion dollars to ease the blow.

Some of that money will go to low-income earners in the form of cash payments. And some will go into public works projects and transport infrastructure.

Abe and his Cabinet will also try to spur growth through other measures. They will offer tax cuts to firms that promote capital investment and wage rises.
