magnetically-levitated train

リニア新幹線の駅とそのルートの最終案が発表されました。すでにご存知のことと思いますが、日本語ではリニアと呼ばれていますが、英語では magnetically-levitated train(or maglev train)と呼ばれています。この内、levitatedは「空中に浮遊する」という意味で、今は解散となった(はずの)某宗教集団の教祖が一時、はやらした言葉でもあります。ここはmagneticallyがついていますので、そういう「超能力」とは関係はありませんが。ともあれ名古屋まで40分とは完全に通学圏内ですね。(Haramii)

Final plan of Japanese maglev train unveiled

A Japanese railway company has unveiled the final blueprint for its next-generation maglev train service linking Tokyo and Nagoya. Its goal is to start service in 2027.

 Central Japan Railway Company President Yoshiomi Yamada announced the route and stations to be served at company headquarters in Nagoya on Wednesday.



According to the plan, terminals will be built at Tokyo's Shinagawa station and Nagoya station, both underground, with 4 stations between them. Most of the route will be in underground tunnels that run through mountainous regions in central Japan.

Also on Wednesday, Central Japan Railway Company, know as JR Tokai, submitted documents about the possible impact of the route's construction on 39 municipalities in 7 prefectures.

JR Tokai hopes to begin construction in the next fiscal year that starts in April after explaining the plan to residents of affected areas.



The magnetically-levitated train will link Tokyo and Nagoya in 40 minutes, about one hour less than the current Shinkansen bullet train.

JR Tokai plans to extend the route beyond Nagoya to Osaka in 2045, linking Tokyo and Osaka in 1 hour 7 minutes. The train is designed to have a maximum speed of 500 kilometers per hour.

Total cost for the railway from Tokyo to Osaka is estimated at about 90.3 billion dollars.

The Japan Foreign Trade Council Chairman Shoei Utsuda said the project will not only have an economic impact by showcasing Japan's advanced technologies to the world, but also reinvigorate Japan itself.
