After her very public meltdown on Celebrity Big Brother one might have thought Vanessa Feltz would have sworn off reality television shows. But the broadcaster and DJ has been unveiled as the first contestant on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition.
今回は、文中のmeltdownは文脈を考慮するとどのような意味になるかという点に注目します。言わずもがな、悲しい事ですがmeltdownといえば2年前、一般の人でも「(原子炉の)炉心溶融」(『ウィズダム英和辞典 第二版』三省堂)という意味でご存じの単語かと思われます。
ここではその意味ではなく、Vanessa Feltz氏が、テレビ番組、Celebrity Big Brotherでどのような行動をしてしまったかを調べてみると、テレビ番組中という非常に公な場所でヒステリーを起こし、良くない言葉をテーブルに書きなぐってしまったそうです。
