Seto takes gold in 400 IM at world championships
BARCELONA, SPAIN – Daiya Seto held off American Chase Kalisz to win the 400-meter individual medley on the final night of swimming at the world championships Sunday .
“I knew everyone was expecting Hagino to win, but I was comfortable swimming next to him because I have done that in Japan and I knew I could win,” Seto said.
The American duo of Ryan Lochte and the recently retired Michael Phelps had been dominant this event in past competitions.
“Over the years, Lochte and Phelps have conquered this event, so I am really happy to win and I want to keep winning at this level,” Seto said.
