ここで気になったのは、swigという表現です。これは「がぶ飲み、一気飲み」「がぶ飲みする」という意味です。（『ウィズダム英和辞典　第３版』三省堂）英英でも調べてみると、次のように定義されていました。”to drink something in large mouthfuls, especially from a bottle [= gulp]:” (LDOCE)

また、このパラグラフ内では、他にもswallowやsipなど、「飲む」関連の語が使われています。それぞれswallowは「を飲み込む、（ごくっと）飲む」、sipは「を少しづつ[ちびちび]飲む」という意味です。（ibid）整理しておさえておきたいと思います。（Jakie）
